Who we are
Lgeetak is a dating app for adults in Iraq, run by Adil Amer Abdulameer, Dora, Baghdad. Contact: lgeetak.support@gmail.com.
This explains what we collect about you, why, who sees it, and how to delete it. The safety of our users, women above all, is what this app is built on.
What we collect
Your account: your email address, only to send you sign-in and confirmation codes, and the password you choose. No user ever sees your email, and the password is never stored as written, only as a one-way scrambled form, so nobody can read it, not even us.
Your profile: first name, gender, date of birth (only your age shows), your governorate or that you live outside Iraq, what you’re looking for, the ages you want to see, your bio, and your photos. And if you add them: your interests, height, area, job, education, languages, pets, favourite songs, smoking, drinking, exercise and children, and your answers to the prompts you pick.
Your verification selfie: a photo doing a gesture the app asks for. Only our moderators see it, to confirm your photos are you and to compare it with banned accounts so they can’t come back. It never shows on your profile.
Your activity: likes, super likes and passes, matches, messages, blocks, reports, the Explore rooms you join (people in the same room know you’re in it, and you leave “Out tonight” by yourself at 6 in the morning), when you last opened the app (to show active people first), and when you last read each chat (read receipts, unless you turn them off). From your profile and theirs we work out a match score to order who you see, without storing anything new about you.
Edits and deletions: if you edit or delete a message, both of you see that it was edited or deleted, but we keep the earlier text so threats can’t be erased before they’re reported. Only our moderators can read it, only as part of a report, and it’s deleted with the chat.
Messages you send us from “Help and support” (a problem, an idea or a question) and the app version: read only by our team. Our answers reach you in the “Lgeetak team” conversation in the app. All of it is deleted with your account.
Your device: a notification token, if you allow notifications. The app lock setting stays on your phone.
Your phone number, only if you add it: to help you get back into your account, and to keep you apart from people who have your number and use “Hide me from my contacts”. Nobody sees it, not even our moderators in the app. We don’t collect your precise location.
Your contacts, only if you turn on “Hide me from my contacts”: the app turns their numbers into scrambled fingerprints on your phone and sends only those, never the numbers or names, so you and they don’t see each other. Nobody can read these fingerprints, and they’re all deleted when you turn it off or delete your account.
Who sees what
Verified people of the other gender can see your first name, age, governorate, what you’re looking for, your bio, your approved photos, and the details you added to your profile (such as height, area and job). The app shows you to people in your governorate whose chosen age range includes you. Someone whose verification selfie is still being checked sees the same, except your photos, and can’t match with or message you until it’s approved.
Messages are seen only by the two people in the chat. Our moderators see a chat only if one of the two reports it.
Moderators see what safety needs: new photos, verification selfies, and reports with their copy of the chat. They sign in with two-step verification, and every decision they make is logged.
Nobody sees your email or date of birth. We don’t sell your data.
Why we use it
To show your profile to the people allowed to see it, and to make matches and chats work.
For safety: reviewing photos and selfies, handling reports, and keeping banned people out.
To send sign-in codes and notifications. A notification always says something general (“New message”), never a name or what was written, because someone else may see your screen.
To keep the app running safely and fix problems.
Companies that work for us
Supabase: the database and photo storage, on servers in Frankfurt, Germany.
Resend: sends the sign-in code emails.
Expo: delivers notifications to your phone, through Apple’s and Google’s notification services.
This means your data is stored and processed outside Iraq. These companies process it only for us, never for their own purposes.
Ads
The app is free and paid for by ads: one ad card in every 15 cards as you browse, and a short video you can choose to watch for 5 more swipes, to bring back the last person you passed, or for a super like. There are no ads in chats.
Some ads are shown by Google (AdMob). We send Google nothing from your profile, not your name, gender, age, photos or messages, we ask only for non-personalised ads, and the app does not use your phone’s advertising ID.
Google still receives from your phone what it needs to show and count ads and prevent fraud, such as your IP address (and from it a rough location), your device type and an app-specific device identifier, and handles it under its own privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy.
Other ads come straight from local companies that deal with us directly, not from Google, and we show them from our own servers. No single ad is shown to you more than 3 times a day. To count them we record, for each ad, how many times you saw it and whether you tapped its button or finished its video, and we delete that record 30 days after the ad ends or when you delete your account. The company gets only totals from us (how many views, people and taps) and never learns who saw its ad. An ad’s button opens the company’s website, its app’s page in Google Play or the App Store, WhatsApp, Instagram or a phone call, where that service’s own policy applies.
We block sexual, gambling, alcohol, political and religious ads and other dating apps, and allow only ads suitable for everyone.
We keep the time of each video you watched for extra swipes for one day only, to count your swipe limit.
Reports and the authorities
When you report someone, the system saves a copy of their profile and of the last 500 messages of your chat as evidence for the moderators. The person isn’t told who reported them.
We give information to the authorities only on an official request that Iraqi law requires us to answer, or to prevent imminent serious harm to someone. We review every request first.
How long we keep it, and deleting
We keep your data while your account exists.
A chat ended by an unmatch or a block disappears for both people at once; we keep it hidden for 90 days in case a report comes in, then delete it.
Deleting your account in Settings immediately deletes your profile, photos, selfie, likes, matches, messages and notification token. One exception: reports you made or that were made about you are kept as evidence for 2 years, then deleted. Backups are erased within 7 days.
Your choices
Edit your profile, turn notifications off in your phone’s settings, lock the app with your fingerprint or face, and delete your account at any time in Settings.
To get a copy of your data or correct it, write to lgeetak.support@gmail.com.
Security
Photos and selfies are in private storage, opened only through short-lived links for people allowed to see them. Screenshots and screen recording are blocked in the app, but nothing stops someone photographing the screen with another phone, so don’t send what you wouldn’t want kept.
The connection to our servers is encrypted. Messages are not end-to-end encrypted: we store them so we can protect you when something is reported. Direct database access is limited to the system administrator.
Age
Lgeetak is only for people aged 18 and over. We delete any account of someone under 18 as soon as we learn of it.
Changes
If we change this policy in an important way, we’ll tell you in the app before it applies.
